How to extract file (e.g., .zip) in cPanel?
Introduction
Section titled “Introduction”You can easily extract compressed files (like .zip) using cPanel’s File Manager. This is helpful when uploading and unpacking website files. Follow these steps to extract files safely.
Step 1: Log in to cPanel
Section titled “Step 1: Log in to cPanel”- Open your web browser and go to your cPanel login page.
- Enter your username and password to log in.
Step 2: Open File Manager
Section titled “Step 2: Open File Manager”- In the cPanel dashboard, find the Files section.
- Click on File Manager to open it.
Step 3: Go to the File Location
Section titled “Step 3: Go to the File Location”- Navigate to the directory where your compressed file is located.
- For example, click on public_html if the file is stored there.
Step 4: Find the Compressed File
Section titled “Step 4: Find the Compressed File”- Browse through the folder to find the file you want to extract, such as
yourfile.zip.
Step 5: Extract the File
Section titled “Step 5: Extract the File”- Right-click the compressed file and choose Extract from the menu.
- Or, select the file and click the Extract button in the top toolbar.
Step 6: Choose the Extraction Path
Section titled “Step 6: Choose the Extraction Path”- A popup will appear asking where to extract the files.
- You can keep the current path or enter a different folder path.
- Click Extract Files to continue.
Step 7: Wait for Extraction to Finish
Section titled “Step 7: Wait for Extraction to Finish”- The extraction will begin, and a progress bar may appear.
- Once finished, you’ll see a confirmation message.
Step 8: Check Extracted Files
Section titled “Step 8: Check Extracted Files”- Go to the folder where the files were extracted.
- Make sure all contents have been unpacked correctly.
Using cPanel’s File Manager to extract files is fast and easy. This method is ideal for setting up website content from ZIP packages or backups.
