How to edit files directly in File Manager?

Editing files directly in cPanel’s File Manager is convenient for making quick updates to your website. Follow the steps below to edit your files safely.

  • Open your web browser and go to your cPanel login page.
  • Enter your username and password to log in.
  • On the cPanel dashboard, go to the Files section.
  • Click on File Manager.
  • Navigate to the folder containing the file you want to edit.
  • For example, click on public_html to find your main website files.
  • Look through the folder and locate the file you want to edit.
  • Right-click the file and select Edit or HTML Edit (for HTML files).
  • Alternatively, select the file and click the Edit button in the top toolbar.
  • If a dialog box appears, choose the encoding.
  • The default option UTF-8 is usually fine. Click Edit to continue.
  • The editor will open in a new tab or window.
  • Edit the content as needed.
  • For HTML files, the HTML Editor gives a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) interface.
  • After editing, click the Save button at the top-right corner of the editor.
  • Close the editor window when done.
  • Visit your website to confirm the changes have been applied.
