How to edit files directly in File Manager?
Introduction
Section titled “Introduction”Editing files directly in cPanel’s File Manager is convenient for making quick updates to your website. Follow the steps below to edit your files safely.
Step 1: Log in to cPanel
Section titled “Step 1: Log in to cPanel”- Open your web browser and go to your cPanel login page.
- Enter your username and password to log in.
Step 2: Open File Manager
Section titled “Step 2: Open File Manager”- On the cPanel dashboard, go to the Files section.
- Click on File Manager.
Step 3: Go to the File Location
Section titled “Step 3: Go to the File Location”- Navigate to the folder containing the file you want to edit.
- For example, click on public_html to find your main website files.
Step 4: Find the File
Section titled “Step 4: Find the File”- Look through the folder and locate the file you want to edit.
Step 5: Open the File in the Editor
Section titled “Step 5: Open the File in the Editor”- Right-click the file and select Edit or HTML Edit (for HTML files).
- Alternatively, select the file and click the Edit button in the top toolbar.
Step 6: Confirm Encoding (if prompted)
Section titled “Step 6: Confirm Encoding (if prompted)”- If a dialog box appears, choose the encoding.
- The default option UTF-8 is usually fine. Click Edit to continue.
Step 7: Make Your Changes
Section titled “Step 7: Make Your Changes”- The editor will open in a new tab or window.
- Edit the content as needed.
- For HTML files, the HTML Editor gives a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) interface.
Step 8: Save the File
Section titled “Step 8: Save the File”- After editing, click the Save button at the top-right corner of the editor.
- Close the editor window when done.
Step 9: Check the Website
Section titled “Step 9: Check the Website”- Visit your website to confirm the changes have been applied.
Using File Manager’s built-in editor is a fast and easy way to make changes to your website files. Always double-check your edits to ensure everything works correctly.
